I’d have to travel very far from Miami to find a Nicobar Pigeon in its natural habitat, because they live in the Indonesian Islands and the Philippines. But luckily for me, I was able to stand just a few feet away from one at Miami’s MetroZoo. These are gorgeous birds!

Nicobars live in forests, building large nests from sticks and the females lay one or two ultra light blue eggs. The males help with incubation duties as these beautiful creatures generally mate for life. They migrate from island to island in search of seeds, nuts, berries and they love to eat grains from open fields. During the day, they walk the forest floors in search of food, while at night they roost up in the trees.  Next to the peacock, this is the most colorful bird I’ve ever seen!
